About Us

Hanham Secure Health is a private healthcare organisation delivering NHS commissioned primary care services to patients within secure environments. Prior to April 2020, we delivered these services under the general practice partnership Hanham Health. In April 2020, we separated out our secure environment services and began delivering them under the limited company Hanham Secure Health (HSH). HSH is owned by the same GP Partners that own the three community general practice surgeries Hanham Surgery, Oldland Surgery and Almondsbury Surgery, but the management of the company and the delivery of services is done by a separate workforce.

The decision to separate the general practice and secure environment services was a reflection of the progression we had made from a local GP provider to a leading primary care provider in the secure sector. Our passion to continue working and growing within the secure sector encouraged us to develop a separate brand and identity to act as the vehicle to take this ambition forward.

Overall, we have been involved in delivering primary healthcare services to secure environments since 2005.

Where we work

We work in partnership with Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust to deliver holistic healthcare services to those individuals within some of the local criminal justice system settings. We currently operate within secure settings across the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire area. The sorts of settings within which we care for patients include:

  • Secure Children’s Homes for children and young people aged 10 to 18
  • Closed and open prisons for male and female young offenders and adults held on remand and post-sentencing
  • Medium secure inpatient services for male and female adults with a mental illness and/or personality disorder who also have a criminal history or have risks and behaviours that mean they cannot be treated in mainstream mental health services
  • Low secure rehabilitation services for vulnerable adult males with ongoing mental health issues who are at different stages of recovery and with different levels of independence
