HMP Leyhill Team of the Year 2022

We are incredibly proud of our primary care team at HMP Leyhill for winning the prison’s Team of the Year staff award 2021/22.

This award, shared with our colleagues from the AWP mental health and substance misuse team, is a shining example of how healthcare services should and can be an integral part of the overall prison system. Receiving this award from Governor Hodson has demonstrated just how valued and accepted the health and wellbeing function at Leyhill; something we have worked for many years to build and maintain.

Thank you to our colleagues within HMPPS for their continued support and respect throughout what has been one of the most challenging years we have faced. An incredible team effort!

Here’s the team’s nomination in full:

“The Healthcare team during the pandemic have shown an unending can-do approach both in reacting and responding to covid outbreaks, but also in maintaining business as usual services in their caring and compassionate way. Despite their own staffing and resourcing issues, they have risen to the challenge of managing positive covid cases, and their efforts in supporting the mass testing when we had our large outbreak in August were monumental. They have supported the prison management team with managing outbreaks and working through difficult and challenging issues when the answers are not always clear and the priority has been to keep people safe and protect the most vulnerable.

Another key role of the Healthcare team is in supporting our terminally ill residents, and this year they have done so with continued care, compassion and dignity for patients at the end of their lives.

The Healthcare at Leyhill are an example o a team that works together to put the needs of their patients first whilst working with the prison in a productive and collaborative way in order to achieve the best outcomes for all. During a year of huge challenges for all staff in the health sector, they have continued to provide a professional and caring service whilst achieving major feats with outbreak management and vaccination delivery.”
